Moral gravity...

When two people are put together, one with a higher standard of behavior than the other, it is always desired that the higher will pull the lower up to their level, but that effort must be much greater because it is working against moral gravity. As we know, it is always easier to walk downhill than to climb uphill. That principle is equally true in spiritual and ethical matters. It is much less demanding for the higher to descend to the lower. - S. Michael Wilcox
